The Play Store feature graphic: specs, rules, and what to put on it
Every Play listing has a slot for a 1024 × 500 banner called the feature graphic. Plenty of developers upload an afterthought, a stretched logo on a gradient, and never think about it again. Google, meanwhile, uses this exact image in its largest promotional placements, and having one is required to be eligible for featuring.
The spec
- Exactly 1024 × 500 pixels, JPEG or 24-bit PNG, no alpha.
- It sits behind the play button when your listing has a promo video.
- It appears in featuring and editorial placements, often cropped from the edges.
Design rules that survive cropping
- Keep text and logo inside a generous safe zone; assume the outer edges can be lost or covered by UI.
- One short message in large type. The graphic renders small on phones, so six words beats a paragraph.
- Do not cram real UI screenshots into it. Tiny UI is unreadable at banner scale; save the UI for the screenshot gallery.
- Match the visual system of your screenshots so the listing reads as one brand.
A generation note
1024 × 500 is an awkward size for image models. It is below the minimum pixel area many models accept, so asking a model for the exact size fails or upscales badly. Storeboard renders the art at 1568 × 768, a valid model size with the same wide aspect feel, then resizes and center-crops to an exact 1024 × 500 in code, in the same visual system as your screenshots.
Skip the artboards entirely.
